Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving Workshop, Southsea, Hampshire

£145.00

A Creative Day of Colour & Pattern

A day-long inkle loom weaving workshop for beginners, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., held at Seeded — the Aladdin’s cave of creativity in Southsea, Hampshire.

Inkle looms are used to weave narrow patterned bands that can become bag straps, hat bands, belts, or decorative trims. It’s a wonderfully practical and portable form of weaving that’s easy to learn in a single day.

What’s Included

  • Six hours of guided tuition with Ellie Fisher, an experienced weaver with over 20 years’ experience

  • Use of looms, tools and all materials (organic cotton and linen yarns from Venne in a wide range of colours)

  • Clear printed handouts to take home

  • Tea, coffee and biscuits available throughout the day

Spaces are limited to ensure plenty of one-to-one guidance. Suitable for complete beginners or those wanting a creative refresher.
You’ll also have the opportunity to buy your loom and materials at the end of the workshop.

What to Expect

You’ll learn the basic principles and terminology of inkle loom weaving while creating your own woven band.
We’ll cover:

  • How to pick the best yarns for weaving

  • How to plan your warp (the threads wound onto the loom before weaving begins)

  • How to dress the loom (prepare the loom for weaving)

  • Lots of weaving!

  • How to secure and remove your finished band

You’ll also receive a list of trusted suppliers to continue weaving at home.

What to Bring

All materials are provided, but if you have a particular project in mind — such as a hat band or strap — you’re welcome to bring it along to colour-match.

For lunches, there are numerous small independent cafés and restaurants near the shop, plus a Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco all within easy walking distance. Please bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
