Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving Workshop, Salisbury — A Creative Day of Colour & Pattern

£145.00

A day-long inkle loom weaving workshop for beginners, 10am–4pm, set in the beautiful surroundings of Fisherton Mill, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Inkle looms are used to weave narrow patterned bands — perfect for bag straps, hat bands, guitar straps, or decorative trim. This is a wonderfully practical and portable form of weaving that’s easy to learn in a single day. The looms are small, lightweight and ideal for weaving at home, on the move, or on your travels.

What’s Included

  • Six hours of guided tuition with experienced weaver Ellie Fisher

  • Use of looms, tools, and all materials (organic cotton and linen yarns from Venne, in a wide range of colours)

  • Clear printed handouts to take home

  • A 20% discount on the Fisherton Mill Gallery Café lunch menu on the day of the workshop

What to Expect

Learn the fundamental principles and terminology of inkle weaving while creating your own handwoven band. We’ll cover:

  • How to choose the best yarns for weaving

  • Planning your warp (the threads that form your structure)

  • Dressing the loom (setting up for weaving)

  • Weaving techniques and pattern options

  • How to secure and remove your finished band

Spaces are kept small to ensure plenty of one-to-one guidance.
Suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting a creative refresher.

At the end of the day, you’ll have the option to purchase your own loom, and you’ll find a list of trusted suppliers in your handout.

What to Bring

If you have a specific use in mind — such as a hat band or bag strap — feel free to bring the item along to colour match.
Fisherton Mill’s café serves excellent lunches, cakes and drinks, or you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

Thoroughly Enjoyed and Recommend

Had a great day learning on the Inkle Loom with Ellie and 7 others at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury. Ellie is a very good teacher and supplies all you need to make a band of your choice. I learnt how to design and choose my colours plus learning about different fibres to use. Ellie is very ‘hands on’ and there was plenty of time for her to help all the students when needed. We received a great hand out and were able to take home our newly made bands. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.

The Class was Fantastic

Ellie was an extremely.knowledgeable and engaging instructor. The class was fantastic and you felt you'd achieved a lot over the course of a day. The venue is beautiful. Would not hesitate to book lots more classes both at Fisherton Mill and with Ellie.

This is the best course I've been on

This is the best course I've been on. Ellie was incredibly hospitable, organised and inspiring. Ellie used a rich, visual language to explain what we were doing, with bespoke literature which she had created precisely for the workshop. She's incredibly calm, and helpful and has this wonderful energy. Even when I felt unsure and needed help I didn't have any anxiety in asking for support. I'm so surprised I actually came away with a finished piece of weave - Ellie really knows what she is doing and I came away feeling as though I really understood weaving on a whole new level. Not only was the workshop amazing but the location, the food and hospitality of the venue was fantastic. I travelled from Winchester to Salisbury for the workshop. It was absolutely worth it and I can't wait to do another workshop soon

Colour Pop 🌈⚡️💙🌿

I love working from home & in my studio, outdoors a favourite. This was such a treat to go to Fisherton Mill & experience an inkle-weave workshop with other fabulous people. We got instructions pre- course for those who want to be prepared. I like being spontaneous and seeing where the colours and course takes me. I love the result of my skinny weave. Goes with my running hat/ top hat & my dog’s collar. I just need to weave more for shoelaces. I can’t wait to do some freehand embroidery with the off-cuts & even some bracelets. Lots of possibilities. Ellie is a dream to work with. She makes you feel relaxed, no matter what stage you are at as a beginner or intermediate knitter - she will support you. The conversion flowed well and we were all in fits of laughter Amazing groups of women Colour Pop 🌈⚡️💙🌿

I would thoroughly recommend this course to all my friends

A huge thank you to Ellie for a fantastic day's weaving with wonderful women. I'm now completely hooked on inkle weaving and cannot wait to get my hands on my very own inklet loom. This type of weaving was very accessible, I was thrilled to have a beautiful completed work by the end of the day. Ellie explained everything clearly and was on hand for whenever we got stuck. We received a great handbook to take home and refer to at a later stage. Fisherton Mill was a lovely venue and we enjoyed a fabulous healthy lunch and an indulgent piece of cake! I would thoroughly recommend this course to all my friends.
