Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving Workshop, Salisbury
A day-long inkle weaving workshop for beginners between 10am - 4pm in the beautiful setting of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Inkle looms are used to produce woven bands that can be used as bag straps, guitar straps, shoe laces, hat bands and decorative trim, just to name a few!
This is a wonderful and practical style of weaving that can be easily grasped in a day. The looms are small, light weight and portable, making them a great choice for taking away on trips, moving around the house, or tucking out of the way.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
The course price includes 6 hours of guided tuition, use of the looms and all materials including yarns and fibres.
The yarns used are organic cotton and linen from Venne in a wide range of colours.
You will be given your own clear workshop handouts to take away with you.
You will receive a 20% discount on the lunch menu from the Fisherton Mill Gallery Cafe on the day of the workshop.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The workshop will teach you the basic principles and terminology of weaving on an inkle loom, and you will weave a band.
We will cover the following:
- How to pick the best yarns for weaving
- How to plan your warp (all the tension threads that are wound on to the loom before weaving begins)
- How to dress the loom (prepare the loom for weaving)
- Lots of weaving!
- How to secure your band and remove it from the loom
Spaces are limited to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those that have a little experience and would like a refresher.
You will have the opportunity to buy a loom at the the end of the workshop and you will find a comprehensive list of suppliers in the resources section of your handout.
