A Relaxed Introduction to Handweaving on a Simple Loom
A day-long frame loom weaving workshop for beginners, 10am–4pm, set in the beautiful surroundings of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Frame weaving is a simple, meditative way to explore texture, pattern and colour. You’ll create a small woven artwork using natural materials and discover how accessible — and addictive — this traditional craft can be.

Six hours of guided tuition with Ellie Fisher, an experienced weaver with over 20 years’ experience

Use of looms, tools and all materials (organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp fibres)

Spaces are limited to ensure plenty of one-to-one guidance. Suitable for complete beginners or those wanting a creative refresher.
What to Expect
You’ll learn the core principles and terminology of frame-loom weaving while creating your own woven piece.
We’ll cover:

Planning your warp (the tension threads wound on before weaving begins)

Dressing the loom and getting started

Exploring texture, pattern and colour as you weave

Securing and removing your finished piece
You’ll also receive a resources list of trusted suppliers to continue weaving at home.
What to Bring
Fisherton Mill has a wonderful café serving lunches, cakes and drinks, or you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch.
All materials are provided, but if you have interesting yarns, ribbons or fabrics you’d like to experiment with, bring them along.

The workshop takes place in the gallery upstairs. We start promptly at 10 a.m., but if you’re running late, don’t worry — once everyone’s started, Ellie will get you up to speed quickly.
About Your Tutor
Ellie Fisher is a textile designer with a foundation in Textiles from Winchester School of Art and a BA + MA from Central Saint Martins.
With over two decades of weaving experience, she shares her love of textiles through accessible, sustainable and mindful workshops.
