Introduction to Table Loom Weaving, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury — Two-Day Workshop

Introduction to Table Loom Weaving, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury — Two-Day Workshop

£290.00

Discover the Structure & Rhythm of Handwoven Cloth

A two-day table loom weaving workshop for beginners, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. each day, in the beautiful surroundings of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Table looms are used to create fine handwoven cloth — from scarves and tea towels to lengths of fabric for fashion and interiors. Because setting up and weaving on a table loom is more complex than frame weaving, this workshop takes place over two full days, allowing plenty of time to learn, experiment, and weave at your own pace.

What’s Included

  • Two full days of guided tuition with Ellie Fisher, a weaver with over 20 years’ experience

  • Use of looms, tools and all materials, including natural yarns and fibres (organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp)

  • Comprehensive printed handouts to support your learning and take home

  • A 20% discount on the Fisherton Mill Gallery Café lunch menu each day

Spaces are limited to a maximum of four participants to ensure you receive plenty of one-to-one guidance. Suitable for complete beginners or those wanting a refresher in structured weaving techniques.

What to Expect

This is an in-depth, hands-on workshop covering both the technical and creative aspects of weaving. It’s detailed, practical, and hugely rewarding — everything you learn is supported by clear notes you can take home.

Day One: Planning & Setting Up

  • The basic principles and terminology of weaving

  • How to plan and make a warp

  • Winding your warp onto the loom and threading it up

Day Two: Pattern & Weaving

  • Understanding and documenting pattern structures

  • Weaving your samples and experimenting with design

By the end of the two days, you’ll take home a series of woven samples.

You’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace while supporting others in the group. Everyone learns differently — the focus is on learning deeply and enjoying the process.

What to Bring

Fisherton Mill has a wonderful café serving lunches, cakes and drinks, or you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch.
All materials are provided, and you’ll receive a 20% discount on food from the café during the workshop.

Great 2 day table loom weaving course

I came along to this day with two friends and we all loved it. There was a day setting up the loom and a day weaving and we enjoyed all of it. The location was lovely and Ellie is really helpful and explained everything really well. We had a good natter, lovely food and came out feeling very proud of what we created.

I had a fabulous 2 days of table loom weaving

Thanks to Ellie I had a fabulous 2 days of table loom weaving, learning how to set it up took one day and the next we progressed on to weaving and introducing patterns into our work. She was so patient when I messed things up a bit! Not only a brilliant course but Fisherton Mill is a pretty special venue. Would highly recommend

I had an absolutely fabulous time on this workshop

I had an absolutely fabulous time on this workshop. I've been weaving on a rigid heddle for a few years and wanted to try my hand at weaving on a shaft loom. It was as great as I expected and Ellie was a fantastic tutor. Had a great time. Thanks Ellie. 🙂

The whole experience was very therapeutic

I recently attended the 2 day table loom workshop and needless to say it was an amazing experience. I wanted to learn the basics of weaving for my work and it was just what I needed. Ellie is a wonderful teacher and so knowledgeable. I specifically wanted to work with Lambswool & she was happy to oblige. The whole experience was very therapeutic. Ellie made the environment so comfortable for everyone. I particularly liked the small group (it was only 4 of us) as she was able to give more attention to each one of us. I would highly recommend this course and Ellie is a very good teacher.

This 2 day course exceeded my expectations!

This 2 day course exceeded my expectations! A lovely venue, small (just 4) class size, and most importantly an excellent tutor. Ellie’s enthusiasm, along with clear instructions kept each of us going at our individual pace. The time flew by, and we all learned so much- from choosing from a wide range of coloured thread, to warping the loom, to learning lots of different kinds of patterns on our sampler. My daughter and I attended the course together and had a thoroughly enjoyable and creative experience. For me, returning to weaving, having learnt 56 years ago (!), was an absolute joy. The whole process I would describe as therapeutic in that it can ignite parts of the brain as well as the body that may have been underused. Certainly that’s my experience. I highly recommend this course, and Ellie is a passionate and very encouraging teacher!
