Introduction to Table Loom Weaving, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury - Two Day Workshop

Introduction to Table Loom Weaving, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury - Two Day Workshop

£260.00

A two day workshop for beginners between 10am - 4pm, in the beautiful setting of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Table Looms are used for weaving finer cloth, i.e., scarves, tea towels, and lengths of fabric for fashion and furnishing.

Setting up the loom and weaving on it is a more complex process than frame loom weaving which is why the workshop takes place over two days.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

The course price includes two days of guided tuition, use of the looms and all materials including yarns and a selection of fibres including organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp.

You will be given your own clear workshop handouts to take away with you.

You will receive a 20% discount on the lunch menu from the Fisherton Mill Gallery Cafe on the day of the workshop.

 WHAT TO EXPECT

This is quite an intense workshop and there is a lot to take in over the two days, especially on day one,  but everything you learn is supported with a handout of clear notes which is yours to make notes on and take home.

DAY ONE:  Planning your warp and setting up your loom.

  • The basic principles and terminology of weaving.
  • How to plan and make a warp, wind it onto your loom and thread the loom up.

DAY TWO: Patterns and weaving.

  • Looking at and documenting patterns.
  • Lots of weaving!

Please be aware that people learn at very different paces, something you find very simple, another might really struggle to understand and vice versa.

You will be encouraged to support your fellow group members whilst working at your own pace. It is important that you don't worry about what stage other people are on as this will only hold you back.

I will ensure that by the end of the two days you will take home a series of woven samples.

There are never more than four people per workshop to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and for those with a little experience that would like a refresher.

Please let us know of any special needs prior to booking so we can discuss all possible options with you.

A very enjoyable course

My daughter and I took Ellie’s 2 day table loom weaving course in December 2023. We enjoyed it very much - Ellie was extremely welcoming, and she had prepared everything perfectly. The range of yarns snd patterns she had available for us to try were very inspiring and fun. Ellie is a great teacher - she demonstrated and explained all the steps we needed to do clearly, and was very patient and kind when we took a bit longer to understand! She was flexible too and allowed us each to go at our own pace, allowing us time to absorb and put what we were learning into practice. A very enjoyable course which we would definitely recommend. Thank you Ellie!

Fabulous two day table loom workshop

Fabulous two day table loom workshop, from warping to cloth. A well structured two days with, clear instructions, and an opportunity for each participant to go at our own pace. Ellie is very patient and has a way of keeping things simple and easy to understand, which meant the task of warping the 4 shaft loom was a calm and enjoyable experience and one that I feel confident that I could repeat independently. The class size of 3 meant we all got so much support and guidance . Once the loom was dressed, the second day was spent exploring weaving patterns. All materials were included in the course fee and we were spoilt for choice. I was delighted that beautiful naturally dyed threads were available to use as well as organic cotton and linens. I am so pleased I invested in this two days, definitely great value and a good kick start for anyone wanting to get into weaving. Thank you Ellie!
